To celebrate National Apprenticeship Week, GeN+1, an organisation dedicated to shaping the next generation of the data centre community, has today announced ESG Limited, a specialist construction and Tier 1 building services contractor for mission-critical environments, as its latest Impact Partner for 2026.

The new collaboration plans to address the skills gap facing the AI, data centre and digital infrastructure landscape by championing apprentices and showcasing its critical role in solving the data centre sector’s skills shortage via early-career development and training.

As demand for skilled project managers and mechanical and electrical engineers continues to rise in line with requirements for AI and hyperscale data centre capacity, apprenticeships will play a significant role in securing the UK’s digital future – providing the technical and engineering expertise needed to build the next generation of UK infrastructure. Just last month, for example, the UK Government announced a £725 million investment to deliver more apprenticeships for young people – helping to match skills and training with local job opportunities, and creating new courses in cutting-edge areas including AI, engineering and digital skills from April 2026.

ESG Limited, an employee-owned and operated business based in the UK, today employs more than 300 professionals across the built environment. As part of its people strategy, the company has established a thriving apprenticeship program, currently recruiting and training apprentices across the quantity surveying, project management, and mechanical and electrical engineering disciplines. ESG also had 10 craft / technical apprentices who worked as part of the team to deliver a 20MW data centre in West London in 2025.

Through a combination of structured learning, mentoring and hands-on experience on live projects, ESG’s apprentices gain the real-world skills needed to design, build and maintain the infrastructure powering AI, cloud computing and the digital economy.
