EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
- Centiel is currently positioning its modular UPS, StratusPower, as a high-reliability solution that has impressively extended its major overhaul intervals from 5–6 years to as much as 15 years.
- The company contends that with improved system monitoring and modular design, it can reduce the need for engineers on-site, thereby lowering operational expenditure.
- Centiel reinforces its credibility through extensive assurance measures such as factory acceptance tests, client site visits, and a global partner network that ensures consistent service quality across 56+ countries.
Centiel, a Swiss manufacturer of UPS systems, is showcasing how advanced design and intelligent monitoring are redefining the total cost of ownership (TCO) model within the power protection industry.
For Data Centre Insight’s inaugural video interview, Louis McGarry, Centiel UK’s Sales & Marketing Director, explains how StratusPower combines modularity, remote diagnostics, and long-life components to deliver value throughout the lifecycle of data centre operations.
A Smarter Approach to UPS Ownership
Traditional UPS designs typically require major overhauls every 5 to 6 years, involving the replacement of capacitors, fans, and batteries. However, Centiel believes its approach will change the status quo. McGarry states: “Most UPS systems need major overhauls every 5–6 years; capacitors, fans, batteries. But we’ve designed ours to go up to 15 years without a major overhaul.â€
By embedding deeper system monitoring and diagnostic technologies, Centiel aims to shift from schedule-based maintenance to IoT-driven servicing. McGarry notes: “With that level of visibility, we might not need engineers on-site twice a year anymore.â€. The architectural design of StratusPower allows for modular replacement of parts before they fail, providing operators with the flexibility and agility to plan maintenance windows rather than respond to emergencies.
Trust Through Transparency
Throughout the interview, a key theme McGarry discussed and emphasised was the transparency and verification of Centiel’s products. This is achieved by inviting prospective customers to engage in hands-on validation through factory acceptance tests (FATs), site visits, and live demonstrations.
These experiences often convert sceptics into advocates. According to McGarry: “We find that after those visits, clients become enthusiastic advocates. When they start selling the product back to me, I know we’ve done our job right.â€
The team’s philosophy is rooted in its Swiss heritage of precise engineering and a reputation built on proof, not promises.
Global Consistency, Local Expertise
Centiel’s reach is global, spanning over 56 countries and supported by 91 partners and regional subsidiaries. This network enables the company to maintain consistent engineering standards and service protocols, regardless of geography.
Centiel UK supports the full lifecycle of its product; from design and installation to commissioning and ongoing service; ensuring that local projects receive global-level support. McGarry reinforces this point: “The UPS is only as good as the infrastructure supporting it. Consistency in installation, regardless of location, is key.â€
